A Gdansk-based NGO, which brings together promoters, musicologists and musicians with years of work in popularising period performance in Poland. The Foundation was established by Filip Berkowicz, the artistic director of critically acclaimed music festivals; and by Barbara Orzechowska, a manager, promoter and Foundation President. Its Programme Panel consists of musical authorities: Professor Marcin Tomczak, conductor, choirmaster and lecturer at the University of Gdansk and the Gdansk Academy of Music; Dr Agnieszka Budzińska-Bennett, singer, researcher, lecturer at the famous Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and founder of Ensemble Peregrina; and Dr Andrzej Sitarz, Deputy Director of the Musicology Institute, Jagiellonian University, and President of the publishing house Musica Iagellonica. The Foundation’s core activity is to popularise, protect and support culture. It mainly focuses on reintroducing forgotten historical pieces of Polish and international music onto the stage. Among its chief projects are two early music festivals, Actus Humanus (Gdansk).
The event-factory organisation, managed jointly by Sebastian Godula and Konrad Koper, brings together a vast experience in organising and producing cultural events, festivals and concerts. Between 2003 and 2007, the agency founders were responsible for managing productions at the Krakow Festival Office. Together with Filip Berkowicz, they initiated and managed the success of Sacrum Profanum and Misteria Paschalia, Poland’s leading festival brands. They have organised some of the largest mass events in the country. For instance, event-factory has been producing the Festival of Polish Music since 2007 and in 2010-2014 the agency handled the Crossroads Festival Krakow. The major productions by event-factory include co-organization of the European Culture Congress in Wroclaw, the key cultural event of the Polish EU Presidency, and event-factory, acting for the National Audiovisual Institute, was the executive producer of the unique double concert Penderecki & Aphex Twin and Penderecki & Greenwood. Building on the success of this project, event-factory was hired to organise a Penderecki//Greenwood concert at the Barbican Centre in London in March 2012 and again during the Heineken Open’er Festival in July. Between 2012–2014, event-factory won contracts for the executive production of the Goodfest festival and Krakow Theatrical Reminiscences.
Polish Radio 2 is an exceptional channel that stands out from other Polish media: every day, 24 hours a day, our programming comprises classical music, cultural news, folk, jazz, literature, radio plays, as well as talks on cultural topics. There is no other station in Poland that can be mistaken for Channel 2 – known in Poland as “Dwójka”. We speak out resolutely on important matters. While we keep up to speed with cultural developments, we also encourage reflection. At Polish Radio 2, we listen attentively to music which is otherwise drowned out in the media quagmire: from contemporary jazz to folk, from classics to the avant-garde and modern alternative music. We broadcast concerts from major Polish festivals. We provide live relays of operas and concerts from the most important venues worldwide, in addition to coverage and reviews of contemporary musical life in London, Vienna, Berlin, and Saint Petersburg. We read a lot: we present literary debuts, new publications, we organize competitions for radio plays, and we take a look at the classics of literature and drama. The radio theatre provides the opportunity to hear the most prominent actors from all generations. We engage in dialogue and try to understand our audience, a response to the ever-greater desire for approachable radio, which treats every listener with respect and as a partner. We neither simplify matters nor do we trim down difficult issues. Polish Radio 2 is a public cultural institution, which has a wide-ranging audience and the largest domestic coverage.
